Premiered together on a cold December night in 1808, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto would redefine both forms, infusing them with the passion of a new Romantic age. Beethoven himself was soloist for the piano concerto, his last public performance at the keyboard. Buchbinder, a pianist revered for his “big-boned, full-throttle Beethoven” (The Guardian), navigates the composer’s introspective nuances and bold bravura passages. The second half of the program features the most famous symphony ever written: Beethoven’s Fifth. Anchored by his iconic four-note motif, Beethoven outlines a journey from darkness to light, despair to triumph. Join us for an unforgettable evening devoted to a pair of towering works
