IMPROBACH. A piano concert by Daniil Orlov

What happens when freedom meets structure? When improvisation encounters classical music form? IMPROBACH invites us to listen to what emerges when they come together. Pianist and composer Daniil Orlov, known for his work with Kirill Serebrennikov on Tchaikovsky’s Wife, Barocco, LEGENDE and other projects, brings together original improvisation and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach's music is often perceived as an untouchable classic: philosophical, complex and demanding a reverent distance. But for Daniil Orlov there is another Bach to be heard: rock-like drive, mysterious fragility, flights of imagination and a sense of an almost physical energy. This Bach becomes the starting point for IMPROBACH — a project in which his music is not treated as a museum piece, but as something born here and now. Each concert is unique. The act of improvisation happens in real time, shaped by the acoustics of the space and the connection with the audience. Performed on piano in Localie Hub’s new home — a historic building in the heart of Amsterdam — the concert becomes more than a musical evening, but rather a special event of a one-of-a-kind happening.
