Who said Angelenos aren’t deep? The Los Angeles Philosophy Club invites guests to engage in deep, structured discussions on today's biggest themes with complete strangers. Peace. Meritocracy. Forgiveness. Autonomy. Compliance. Defiance. Sex. Mess. Join us for a discussion on control & compliance. Can control be a form of care? Does punishment create better people or better liars? Is compliance necessary for peace, or proof of disorder? Can one control others without controlling themselves? Is self-control really a form of compliance? Does technology obey us, or train us? We want to hear your answers. You’ll be able to explore and defend them in three small-group sessions, speaking to a new cast of thinkers each round. Oh, and there will be enough time to grab a drink between. We’re not heathens! No previous philosophical or debate experience is required. All belief systems are welcome. Strong opinions are encouraged (if you can back them up.) P.S. New York is already doing this.
